Employee Scholarships
Through funding from the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation and generous donors throughout the community, scholarships are available for employees who are pursuing nursing degrees. Donors understand the essential role that nurses have in units, programs and clinical disciplines throughout the hospital.
Please note: All completed scholarship applications should be submitted to Amy Stockman, Nursing Administration, Miami Valley Hospital. Questions regarding the scholarship applications should be directed to Janell Easter at 208-3383. The 2020-2021 scholarship applications will be accepted between June 1, 2020 through June 29, 2020. Awards will be announced mid-July.
New this year, you may fill out one application for all scholarships you would like to apply to. Please be sure to review the requirements of each scholarship.
Minority Nursing Scholarship
Scholarship recipients enrolled in a nursing program will receive up to $5,000 per year if enrolled in a Bachelors program, and $2,500 per year if enrolled in an Associates program. Funding support will not exceed 2 years.

Kyle Combs Advanced Care Education Scholarship
Established in memory of PCT Kyle Combs, this scholarship is available for Patient Care Technicians on any Advanced Care unit at Miami Valley Hospital who want to serve as a nurse on this unit.

Pat Hastings Nursing Scholarship
The scholarship was established in honor of Pat Hastings, a longtime Miami Valley Hospital employee. The scholarship benefits MVH employees and/or their legal dependents who are pursuing a nursing career. To receive a funding award, students must already be formally accepted into a program.
Jerry Colp Nursing Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Jerry Colp, a longtime Dayton businessman and benefactor of the Jerry Colp Center of Nursing Excellence at MVH. The scholarship is available to nursing students who are 1) pursuing a nursing undergraduate degree, 2) who have been formally accepted into a program, and 3) have two years or less until graduation. Applicants must also qualify for Federal Student Aid.
Sweet Caroline Elizabeth Mills Scholarship
The Sweet Caroline Elizabeth Mills Scholarship was developed by her husband, Jon Mills, in memory of Caroline Mills, a registered nurse and an inspirational cancer survivor, who was honored as the 2010 Miami Valley Hospital Foundation Champion of Hope Survivor. The scholarship is available to students who are 1) pursuing an undergraduate degree in a medical field, 2) who have been formally accepted into a program, and 3) have two years or less until graduation.
Bobbie Gerhart Nursing Scholarship
Past president of Miami Valley Hospital, Bobbie Gerhart established a scholarship for nursing students. Bobbie credits her nursing career to her success during her tenure at Premier Health, and is passionate about helping our future generation of nurses. The scholarship is available to students who are 1) pursuing an undergraduate degree in nursing, 2) who have been formally accepted into a program, and 3) have two years or less until graduation.
