Emmett’s Place: Roaring 20s

Emmett’s Place: Roaring 20s, a party filled with music, dinner, dancing, and exploration – just for adults – will take place October 19, 2024, at America’s Packard Museum in Downtown Dayton.

This event supports Emmett’s Place, which is located just steps from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Miami Valley Hospital.

DID YOU KNOW?

The birth of a premature baby who is unable to go home after birth will impact one in 10 parents and grandparents, and with a daily average of 45 infants in the NICU on any given day, the impact is great. Your generosity helps to ensure Emmett’s Place will continue to provide support to those who need it most and your purchase of two tickets to our Paint the Town event sponsors an entire day at Emmett’s Place.

Emmett’s Place is an area of respite and hospitality for the immediate family members of newborn infants who are hospitalized in the NICU, and for hospitalized pregnant women and their families experiencing a longer than usual hospitalization. It provides families with an area to be together during a hospital stay and helps to decrease the stress families face as they look for ways to navigate home, school and work life while trying to spend time with their new infant. In addition, families going through this shared experience have found encouragement and reassurance while interacting with one another in Emmett’s Place.

Emmett’s Place was named in memory of Dr. Derek and Emily Sorensen’s infant son, Emmett Mikael Sorensen. After a month-long hospital stay, the Sorensens brought the idea of a family space to the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation to help ensure that Emmett’s brief life would have a long-lasting, positive impact on other NICU families.  Community contributions through the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation are vital in keeping Emmett’s Place available for our NICU infants and their families, and we cannot thank you enough.
