The Valley Classic Golf Tournament to Celebrate 35 Years of Supporting Miami Valley Hospital
Miami Valley Hospital Foundation will host the 35th anniversary of The Valley Classic golf tournament, one of the region’s longest and esteemed charitable golf outings. This milestone event will take place July 29 at NCR Country Club in Kettering.
The Valley Classic has long been a significant fundraiser for the Bull Family Diabetes Center, supporting vital diabetes education programs. In the past year, proceeds from the tournament have allowed the center to provide essential education to more than 1,500 diabetes patients.
“For three and a half decades, The Valley Classic has exemplified a spirit of community, camaraderie, and philanthropy, uniting golfers and supporters of important health care initiatives,” said John Bull, chair of The Valley Classic Committee. “The tournament’s legacy is marked not only by its longevity but also by its commitment to making a difference in the lives of those served by Miami Valley Hospital.”
Diabetes represents a significant burden in Ohio. Nearly one million Ohio adults (11 percent) have diabetes, and an additional 300,000 have diabetes but do not know it, according to the Ohio Department of Health. Through education, outreach, and innovative care, the Bull Family Diabetes Center continues to make strides in combating this widespread health challenge.
“We are profoundly grateful for the support of The Valley Classic, which has been instrumental in our efforts to provide vital resources and education to patients living with diabetes in our community,” said Miguel Parilo, MD, FACP, medical director of the Bull Family Diabetes Center. “Through the generosity of participants, sponsors, and the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation, we have been able to expand our reach, empower our patients, and foster a healthier community.”
More than $4 million in proceeds has been raised by this event, benefitting numerous patient programs at Miami Valley Hospital. In its 35 years of serving the community, The Valley Classic has supported everything from the life-saving efforts of CareFlight to the compassionate care of the palliative care program. Additionally, funds raised have benefited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Berry Women’s Center and the Shaw Emergency and Trauma Center, underscoring the tournament’s comprehensive approach to health care philanthropy.
“We are immensely proud to celebrate the 35th anniversary of this wonderful tournament,” said Jenny M. Lewis, MBA, CFRE, president and CEO of Miami Valley Hospital Foundation and system vice president of philanthropy at Premier Health. “Over the years, this event has not only brought together supporters of our hospital but has also served as a catalyst for positive change in our community.”
The tournament format is a four-player scramble, with a shotgun start. The entry fee includes brunch; golf associated fees; refreshments on the course; gifts; prizes; and cocktails and dinner for each player and his/her guest.
Female foursomes are encouraged to compete in the Women’s Team Division which includes a special first-place division award.
The Valley Classic will feature guests from the Cincinnati Chapter of the NFL Alumni Association, including David Fulcher and Jim Breech. Fulcher’s impactful career with the Cincinnati Bengals reshaped the safety position, while Breech’s remarkable achievements as a kicker have left a significant mark on the NFL. Additionally, Sarah Burnham, a former LPGA Tour player and current Oakland University women’s head golf coach, will participate in the event.
