Valley Classic Benefits Diabetes Patient Education Program

2011 TVC photos

The 22nd annual Valley Classic took place at NCR Country Club on August 8, 2011. This year's tournament raised some $135,000 in proceeds for the Diabetes inpatient Education Team based at the Bull Family Diabetes Center. Since diabetes is largely a self-managed disease, patient education is vital in assisting individuals in developing the skills to effectively control their condition.

For the fourth consecutive year the tournament was chaired by Arik Sherk who led an 18-member volunteer committee comprised of community leaders. Also for the fourth consecutive year, Skanska/Shook sponsored the tournament at the Platinum level.

That evening, Mr. Sherk served as master of ceremonies for the dinner and awards presentation for golfers and guests at the NCR clubhouse. Dinner speakers included: MVH President and CEO Bobbie Gerhart, who thanked the sponsors and donors for their continuing commitment to MVH patients; Miguel Parilo, MD, FACP, medical director of the Bull Family Diabetes Center, who spoke about the importance of funding for patient education; and Chris Pulos, vice chair of the Foundation board of trustees, who participated in awarding skill prizes and trophies to the winning foursomes.

Since 1990, more than $3.2 million in proceeds have been raised by the Valley Classic to benefit patient programs and services at Miami Valley Hospital.
