Emmett’s Place Virtual Family Night at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery
Separate but Together!
The second annual fundraiser for Emmett’s Place was held on October 3, 2020. The Miami Valley Hospital Foundation is excited to present this year’s event virtually. Conducted by the exceptional staff at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, the program consisted of several kid-friendly activities like animal encounters, a planetarium show, and a science activity. Each registration for the event included a Family Fun Kit with an interactive children’s book about Emmett’s Place, activity sheets for the event, and many more entertaining surprises!
Emmett’s Place is a quiet area of relaxation and hospitality for the immediate family members of NICU patients and antepartum mothers and their families. The space allows guests to take a break from hospital routines to unwind, enjoy a meal, and have a chance to be close to one another during a hospital stay.
The space was named in memory of Dr. Derek and Emily Sorensen’s infant son, Emmett Mikael Sorensen. After a month-long hospital stay, the Sorensens brought the idea of a family space to the MVH Foundation to help ensure that Emmett’s brief life would have a long-lasting, positive impact on other NICU families.
